Every Child is precious, Every child is Amoli.
The Issue
In India, every 15 minutes a child is sexually abused. 1 in every 5 girls and 1 in every 20 boys is a victim of child Sexual Abuse. We, at Amoli are trying every bit to decrease these stats. Take a look at the numbers that we have changed till now. Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a serious and widespread problem in India as it is in many parts of the world today. The trauma associated with sexual abuse can contribute to arrested development, as well as a host of psychological and emotional disorders, that some children and adolescents may never overcome. When sexual abuse goes unreported and children are not given the protective and therapeutic assistance they need, they are left to suffer in silence.
During each session we take a survey in which each and every child have to mark/tick the emotions/emojis that they would’ve felt had they been in the victim’s shoes. The emotions are as follows:
- Happy
- Angry
- Sad
- Scared
- Shy
- Confused

As a volunteer, taking sessions filled me with a sense of calmness and happiness but at the same time, a realization of the actual plight of little innocent girls. The kids were so welcoming and loving, hearing their stories and experiences amazed me that some of those girls were more courageous than I ever was at their age. It was an educative experience altogether and I felt honored to have been a part of such a great organization that focuses on such an important issue.
